Madonna wins because she subverted the music industry by being a woman in power. Plus, she writes (or co-writes) most of her songs, she can sing, and she promotes independence and freedom rather than empty slogans.
The Spices, on the other hand, lose as they reduce themselves to boobs and shoes. Plus, they don't write their own songs, and what the heck is "girl power" anyways?

Inane Diet of the Month: The Gettin' Jiggy Wit Will Smith Diet:

The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same...

From A Girl's Guide To Dating and Going Steady by Dr. Tom McGinnis (why does he know so much about the way girls think?), 1968:

"Dating Older Boys or Men: The man who spends a lot of money on a girl...wants more from her-more necking, petting, or even intercourse... Rightly, or wrongly, therefore, many persons suspect that an older male who dates a young girl wants to take advantage of her sexually-to overcome her in ways she is not yet mature enough to handle."

From The Epiphanous Young and Modern (YM) in the Way Older Guy section of an article entitled Warning!, August 1997:

"Why you should get over him: He moves way too fast for you.

Pluses: After years of practice, he knows how to kiss like a pro.

Minuses: He'll expect a lot more than sweet little smooch sessions.

Doom Factor: Hope you like hanging out at home, 'cause your 'rents are gonna put you on a supershort leash when they find out you've been lying to them."

Both YM and the sage Dr. McGinnis both assume that teenagers are incapable of asserting themselves and that the female never wants sex. Furthermore, just because a man is older, it doesn't mean he automatically will want to sleep with you. And, why does YM assume that dating an older guy entails lying? I wonder what Dr. McGinnis and the ladies at YM have to say about older women befriending younger men?

Here's some invaluable advice on why dating between "unlikes" is forbidden, according to Dr. McGinnis :

"The ideal date for the young teenage girl is usually a boy she has known for some time, who lives in her community, who is about her age, and who has a similar background. The reason this is an ideal date is that, as I have pointed out, a girl's first dating experiences usually have enough built-in tensions without adding to them, as might be the case if she went out with a boy from a drastically different background who perhaps had to face the objections of parents and relatives as well."

In other words, a white girl should never go out with a black guy because she will always be too good for him. How subtle you are, Dr. Tom!
