| "When leg shaving becomes the hot topic of
feminism...we are all in big trouble :} "

| "Yes. shave them, not for men, but for good hygiene!" -Stephanie |

I am so sick of school, I can't wait for it to be out. It is full of
cowardly adults who hide behind the false facade that they know what they are
talking about. They think that we teens are unintelligent creatures. And they,
by telling themselves this, show themselves to be the logical result of this
type of thinking: FOOLS!"
-Amber | "I agree with Cori about Christianity. I was raised a Southern Baptist my
whole life, which I guess to some people seems like a backwoods old-fashioned
sort of thing where women are treated like slaves or subservient sexual
objects or something. But really it's not like that at all. We can have
ordained female reverends and female deacons in the church. A lot of other
religions, like Islam, can't say that. (I'm not trying to put down Muslims
or anything, just making a point). However, I personally wouldn't feel
comfortable with a female reverend. This has traditionally been a man's job,
and I see nothing wrong with leaving it that way. There is nothing wrong
with tradition, and just because a woman can do something does not mean she
should."

5 EASY STEPS TO SUCCESS This is not a rhyme that rhymes, or a complicated poem, so take into consideration what you're about to read: You've envied someone in your life because everyone has done it once. Maybe you wish you had her awesome voice, his humongous house or their popularity, But really there's 5 easy steps to becoming who you want getting what you want to be, and here they are: 1.First, be happy for what you already have. There are people that you know who wish they had something that you have that you don't even notice. 2.When you see something that really interests you, think about whether you NEED it or if you just really WANT it. Also, think why you would want it. Make sure it's what YOU want, not what someone else wants. 3.If you decide that you NEED that certain thing, then start saving up or have someone close to you help you out. 4. This is probably the hardest one to work with. Stick up for you and your friends. Stick up for someone when people are talking about them behind their back. Avoid gossip in any way possible. Don't let people make you feel bad and don't EVER cave into peer pressure. Believe in yourself! 5.Now for the long one.... Get involved! Sign up for that basketball team you were thinking of joining or the student committee. Don't even think twice about it either. You'll feel good about yourself, you'll be getting out, meeting new people, and expressing yourself. And so what if you're not so great at shooting the ball? Even if you don't make the team, you'll feel much better about yourself for giving it your best! Nobody will bother you that you didn't make it unless they were too scared to try out themselves or they have lack of self confidence. Also if you're not that great at whatever you tried out for or you're not having fun, then try out for the next thing that crosses your mind. There's nothing better than exploring your talents! After all, how do you think Mozart would have become the most well-known pianist ever if he had never started piano lessons, or how do you think Leonardo Da Vinci would have become a famous painter and artist if he had never picked up a paintbrush? So open some doors and start moving mountains!!! -Lindsay |

"As long as you are doing it because you want to, and
not because you are being pressured into it by other
people, I think that it's o.k. for a feminist to shave
her legs. Shaving your legs because you feel cleaner
or because you just like the way smooth, hairless skin
feels is one thing, but shaving your legs because a
guy
wants you to or because everyone else does is another.
I think that if a guy really likes you, he won't care
about stupid, trivial things like hair. Inner beauty
has nothing to do with how much hair is on your body.
Therefore, as long as you are doing it for yourself
and not someone else, you can shave your legs and
still be a feminist.

"It's no better to not shave your legs because that's the feminist ideal than
it is to shave them to be feminine. I personally do. If someone doesn't like
it, too bad. If they do, whatever. I do it for me not them. That's what
real feminism is all about. I like having smooth legs. "

"I know guys who shave off their body hair for sports or
working out.So actually it's not just a woman thing. Plus, think of the word
'feminists': Isn't the root word of that "feminine"? Well, if that's the case
would you call hairy legs 'feminine'? And for the ladies who don't shave
their legs, you shouldn't shave under your arms or pluck your eyebrows
either. I must say that shaving under the arms is a matter of hygiene. It's
almost like that 'burning of bras,' if you don't wear a bra you'll start to
sag before you know it. "

"You know what I hate ? When you've been having a horrible day (you woke up late, had to skip breakfast because of that, missed homeroom, got d.t because of that, forgot your gym strip at home, so you had to take gym in your regular clothes, got another d.t. for the missing gym strip, forgot your lunch, not that it mattered because you wouldn't have had time to eat as you were stuck in d.t., you're then late for math, you forgot the homework for it, AND that you have a test in math that day, then, after school, you miss the bus, have to walk home, and, after an hour of walking you come in to be yelled at for not coming home on time and missing your ortho appointment. Then, on top of all this, it's your night to cook, you've got 2 essays, 6 pages of misc. homework, and a test to study for, along with baby sitting those brats down the street !!! ) And then , some guy has the nerve to mutter 'PMS' under his breath at you. Don't we have a right to feel crappy after a day like that?! And yet, if a guy had a day like that , heaven forbid anyone blame him for his foul mood. We have no word to say if a guy's in that sort of mood. This is not fair. Thank you."
-Cori | "I see myself as neither a feminist nor a bimbo as both of these are stereotypical views of women in Western society today. I see myself simply as a human being no greater and no less than any other person, male or female. As a 21st century girl, I believe that people have the right to do what they want to do and say what they want to say. That may be to protest against human rights violations in Burma, seek answers to the unknown questions about the universe - or to shave your legs.

"I think everybody should go natural, no shaving, no make-up or anything.
Celebrities wouldn't mean a thing to us without their beauty products,
they would be normal and that's the way I think it should be. We need to
set a good example for the generations to come that it's not what you
are or how you look that counts, it's you, your personality, who you are
that makes you, well, you. "

"In my opinion, there is an issue far more important than shaving. Shaving is a woman's choice. There is no law that states she must do so. But there are restrictions on women, law-restrictions demanding that in order to abide by the laws, she must cover her breasts. This is so sexist, and painfully obvious at that. Are we the product of a puritanical society that says women are all sex? Men don't have to follow this at all? Come on! This attitude of a woman being obligated to cover her breasts on a hot summer day says that she represents sex, and that women are only sex toys for men to play with, but sex is bad, and should be hidden. No looking at my boobies! They are private! Just for the facts-men's nipples get sexually arroused too. And so the only visible difference between a man's chest and a woman's is that the women's is traditionally fattier. And why is it fatty again? TO FEED THE BABY AND THERE IS NOTHING SEXY ABOUT THAT, WHICH EVEN IF IT WAS SEXY SHOUDN'T BE A PROBLEM ANYWAY BECAUSE SEX IS NOT BAD. When women understand that they are not equal, and when they understand what they must do to become equal, to get paid the same amount of money, be President etc, the world will be a better, more logical place. WOMEN ARE NOT A MINORITY. WE ARE FIFTY-THREE PERCENT OF THE POPULATION."

"Shaving your legs is a simple clean way of presenting your self.
I personally find it repulsive to look at some woman's unshaved legs.
Guys have nothing to do with it.
" -Luma | "I shave my legs because I personally prefer to. I do not think a true Feminist should have to not shave their legs because often it is a matter of personal hygiene. Having said that if a girl does not want to shave her legs people, especially boys, should not make fun of her. To be honest, if most people didn't shave there legs, I probably would not too as I am easily pressured by my friends. I often wish that I could be more independent." -Smootie |
